If you have priced Opta data, you already know the shape of the problem. The data is the gold standard: event-by-event records with XY coordinates, standard qualifiers, the shot-quality models that made xG the lingua franca of football analytics. The contract, in our research, starts around $100K a year and climbs from there. For a hedge fund or a Premier League club, that is a line item. For everyone else, it is a wall.
This page exists because we get asked the same question every week: can I get the Opta data without the Opta contract? The answer is yes, with the right expectations. Dribble sources its data from Opta under licence (see our Terms, section 7), and packages it as data products priced from $19 to $499 a month. Here is exactly what you get, what you do not, and how the math works.
What Opta's data actually is
When people say "Opta data," they usually mean three things: the event feed (every on-ball action with XY pitch coordinates and qualifiers), the match metadata (lineups, formations, officials), and the derived metrics (pre-shot expected goals, shot-ending qualifiers). The value is in the standardization: a pass in Belgium is recorded the same way as a pass in Brazil, which is what makes cross-league models possible.
Our event tables carry 57M+ rows with Opta XY coordinates, plus the standard qualifier columns (corners, crosses, blocked shots, periods, pass end coordinates on our BigQuery Max tier), and pre-shot expected goals (Opta qualifier 321) computed per shot. Matches at Opta's full-coverage collection level carry everything the collection process captured, and our schema marks coverage level per row so you can verify it rather than trust it.
What Dribble gives you
Thirty-two competitions ingested daily: the Premier League, the other big-four European leagues, the domestic cups, the Champions League, the Europa League, the Conference League, MLS, the Brasileirão, the Saudi League, the Turkish Süper Lig, the Eredivisie, the Belgian top flight, and more (the full list is on our pricing page, audited October 2026). The archive covers six completed seasons (2020/21 through 2025/26) across 41,017 matches, 90,582 players, and 8,054 teams.
Three ways in, depending on how you work:
| API | BigQuery | Downloads | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry | Lite $19/mo (personal and research) | Starter $49/mo (personal and academic) | Legacy Archive $49 one-time |
| Commercial | Elite $49/mo, Flite $149/mo | Pro $149/mo, Max $499/mo | Custom tiers from $249 |
| Event rows | Per-match endpoints | 57M+ event rows with Opta XY | 1.25M+ player-match rows |
| Refresh | Daily post-match (Elite) | Weekly (Pro), daily snapshots (Max) | Monthly snapshots |
Commercial licences, the part enterprise buyers care about, are available on the commercial tiers: building and selling apps, dashboards, models, and published research is permitted on API Elite and Flite and BigQuery Pro and Max. Raw-data redistribution is not included by default on any plan and requires a separately signed order form and data-licence addendum (our Terms, sections 6 and 8). That is the same constraint every licensed data vendor imposes; we just state it plainly.
What you do not get
Honesty first. Dribble is not a live feed. Our data is post-match on a daily or weekly refresh, explicitly not real-time. If your product needs live scores, in-play odds, or pre-kickoff lineups, we are the wrong tool and you should buy from someone who sells a live feed. Post-shot xG is not yet live in our pipeline (only pre-shot xG, qualifier 321, is ingested today). And competitions outside the 32 daily-ingested ones are available on custom tiers (per-competition, per 10-season batch, delivered in 1 to 3 days after payment with a signed quote and contract), not off the shelf.
The math
Enterprise event-data contracts in our research start around $100K a year, usually with multi-year terms and minimums. Dribble's BigQuery Max, the tier with daily snapshots, revision history, and normalized qualifiers, is $499 a month, or $4,990 a year. That is roughly a twentieth of the enterprise starting point, for the same upstream feed, at post-match latency instead of live. For a model shop, a betting syndicate, or an app team that can live with daily refresh, that is the whole argument.
Frequently asked
Is this really Opta's data? Yes. All football statistics, event data, and related content on the platform are sourced from Opta under licence (Terms, section 7). We do not scrape, estimate, or synthesize it.
Can I build a commercial product on it? On the commercial tiers (API Elite $49/mo, Flite $149/mo, BigQuery Pro $149/mo, Max $499/mo), yes: apps, dashboards, models, and published research are permitted. Redistributing the raw data itself requires a signed addendum.
How fresh is it? Post-match. API Elite refreshes daily after matches complete; BigQuery Max takes daily snapshots after 06:00 UTC ingestion; BigQuery Pro refreshes weekly. There is no live feed, and we will not sell you one.
Do you have my league? 32 competitions are ingested daily. If yours is not among them, extended coverage is available on custom one-time tiers (per competition, per 10-season batch), delivered 1 to 3 days after payment. Ask us; if it exists in the Opta feed, we can ingest it.
Can I try the data first? Yes. API trial keys are free for 3 days, the subscriber workspace includes sample CSVs (player match stats and match events) with the full schema, and Downloads are priced at $9.99 a month so you can poke the format before committing.
